On 07 May 2016 David Jamieson was re-elected as West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC). The PCC is responsible for setting the strategic objectives of the police force and also decides how funding for local policing and crime reduction is allocated. Visit the PCC’s website for more information about the work of the PCC.
The West Midlands Police and Crime Panel was created at the same time. Made up of local elected councillors and independent members we have a duel role to both scrutinise and support the work of the PCC. We ask important questions about how the PCC does his job and what decisions he makes. We act as a critical friend.
The Commissioner must consult us on his Police and Crime Plan, the budget for policing, as well as the council tax precept (the money collected from council tax for policing) and certain key appointments. We also handle complaints about the PCC.
