The West Midlands Combined Authority is consulting the public and key stakeholders on proposals to transfer the powers and responsibilities of the Police and Crime Commissioner to the West Midlands Mayor from 2020.
The Panel plays a key role in police governance by scrutinising the Police and Crime Commissioner.
On 26 November 2018 Andy Street, West Midlands Mayor and WMCA officers set out the proposals, together with the Stage 1 consultation questions and their consultation and engagement plan. More details and a link to the consultation questionnaire can be found here.
The Police and Crime Commissioner also outlined his views on the two roles merging. These are set out on his website
Following the meeting the Panel submitted its response to the Stage One consultation.
The Panel will consider the Stage Two public consultation questions on 4 February, before submitting a further response.
The West Midlands Combined Authority Board is expected to consider the outcome of the consultation in March 2019
